Like a winter shimmer! DANIEL SMITH's luminescent watercolors are unlike anything ever seen in watercolor, simulate the glitter of a watery surface or the luster of mother-of-pearl. They're made from mica pigment, thin transparent particles coated with highly reflective metal oxides. Interference pigments display a subtle sheen when used on white paper. Used on black paper, or as a glaze over dark colors. Pearlescent colors give white paper a pearl-like luster. Use Pearlescent Shimmer as a glaze for a snow-like glimmer or mix with other colors to add sparkle and shine.

    1. Very pretty

I bought this to mix with other colors and it works pretty well. I was hoping for something more transparent, and didn't realize that this paint has some white in it When I mix it with other pigments, the mixes turn out ever-so-slightly pastel, but not too bad. I know I could use plain mica to get some shimmer, but this is more convenient, with the mica already tiny and suspended in binder.

I took off a star because the paint separates a little. I mixed it with a poker tool and store it cap down and it seems to stay mixed. It also is a bit sticky, and takes a tiny bit more effort to dilute with water, something Jean Haines also mentioned with her DS shimmer/sparkle paints.

I don't regret my purchase. I love it. I'll have fun with it over the holidays.

    2. disappointed

I don't usually spend this much for water colors, but it was praised by a known artist. Not only is it pricey for a very small tube, but when I opened it, it spit out a large blob onto some cards I was working on. After cleaning it up, I tried it out, I will never buy it again. I will stick to Wink of Stella. on 20th Oct 2018
